Hanoi – my home for a few months

Hanoi is a very popular destination to many backpackers who want to back up their finances and experience the local way of living. And that’s why I moved there in the beginning of December with a plan to teach English for a while. It has been an incredible experience but the beginnings weren’t that easy. I’ll never forget my first lesson with the 5 year olds. I can honestly say that I was terrible, I didn’t know how to make them intersted, how to make them laugh. One day a friend gave me a valuable tip, he said ‘Just forget that you’re an adult and go nuts in the classroom’. And kids loved it, they really did! I gradually became better, I learnt some tricks how to keep them focused and interested. The most rewarding part for me was to see their excitement when I came to the classroom.
For those of you who know me quite well it might have been a bit of a shock to find out that I was a kindergarten teacher. And for those who don’t, hmm let’s just say that I have never been the biggest fan of kids…
But things change, I certainly have. And somehow I enjoyed being around the little ones. And I think the feeling was mutual. Children had a good affect on me. I could be in a terrible mood but whenever I was around kids I naturally became cheerful and happy.
Mom – if you’re reading this, please don’t get too excited. I’m not planning to have kids of my own any time soon 😉
Here are some photos of my Hanoian adventure:
